Elon Musk, the tech tycoon, has hit back at US President Joe Biden for ignoring his electric car company, Tesla, in his State of the Union address. During his speech, the US President thanked Ford and General Motors for investing in the country to develop electric vehicles and create jobs. Mr Musk sent out a “FYI” to those “in charge” of the US President’s Twitter handle, as well as Tesla’s stats.
Mr Biden had lauded Ford for investing $11 billion to build electric vehicles and creating 11,000 jobs across the US. He then highlighted GM’s plan for making the “largest investment in its history” — $7 billion to “build electric vehicles, creating 4,000 jobs in Michigan.”
Mr Musk has already accused President Trump of neglecting Tesla, the world’s largest electric automaker, while discussing the future of green mobility in the United States.
He said that Tesla had created over 50,000 jobs in the area and that the firm was investing more than twice as much as GM and Ford combined. This was a “fyi” to the person in charge of President Biden’s Twitter account, he added.
Mr. Musk and Mr. Biden have had a long-running rivalry over what the entrepreneur claims is the US President’s unwillingness to recognise Tesla’s economic benefits. Following Mr Musk’s frequent concerns, US President Donald Trump addressed Tesla in a speech in February 2022.But it’s not clear though why he left Tesla out of his State of the Union address.
In January 2022, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO, criticized the US President for not inviting him to a White House meeting for top business leaders, and even went on to call him a “damp sock puppet in human form”.
Mr Musk had already taken a swipe at the US President in September 2021, after his private spaceship had completed a historic mission as the first all-civilian flying crew. He was responding to a Twitter user who inquired about Vice President Joe Biden. The user claimed that President Trump had failed to acknowledge the four newest American astronauts, and wanted Mr Musk’s opinion on the matter.
Mr Musk had a scathing reply to that. “He’s still sleeping,” tweeted Mr Musk.In January 2022, Tesla stated that the company had “achieved production of more than 3,05,000 vehicles and deliveries of over 3,08,000 vehicles” in the fourth quarter of 2021.
Biden wants to grant an additional $4,500 tax credit to union-made, American-built electric automobiles, igniting a battle between Tesla and Toyota Motor Corp, which do not employ US unionised workers, and United Auto Workers-affiliated carmakers in Detroit.
“From iconic companies like GM and Ford building out new electric vehicle production to Tesla, our nation’s largest electric vehicle manufacturer, to innovative younger companies,” Biden had said, adding other start-ups and saying manufacturing is coming “back to America after decades.”
