Egypt is Building a $9.7 Billion New Nile Delta
Egypt is launching a groundbreaking project to address its food security and population challenges. With a population expected to reach 160 million by 2050, Egypt must find ways to feed an additional 47 million people while losing arable land to urbanization. Currently importing over 50% of its food, costing billions annually, Egypt is building the world’s largest artificial river, the “new Delta.” This monumental initiative involves redirecting wastewater, underground pipelines, and water treatment facilities to convert 9,000 square kilometers of desert into fertile farmland. This project aims to increase Egypt’s agricultural land by 23%, boost food production, and create millions of jobs.
