Elon Musk Just Had Some Bad News For Trump!
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, met with former President Donald Trump on Sunday in Palm Beach, Florida. The New York Times reported, citing three persons who were informed on it, along with an anonymous wealthy Republican donor. However, Elon Musk just had some bad news for Trump. Elon Musk was among the potential donors that Donald Trump spoke with on Sunday, according to The New York Times.
The publication states that the group convened in Palm Beach, Florida. Though he says he won’t, it’s unclear if the billionaire has made up his mind to contribute to the GOP front-runner’s campaign. He posted on X on Wednesday, saying, “Just to be super clear, I am not donating money to either candidate for US President.” Although Musk could fund Trump’s campaign in several ways than giving directly to it; super PACs are one such method.
With a net worth of $197.7 billion, Musk is the third richest person in the world according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. According to the Federal Election Commission, the CEO of SpaceX has contributed less than $1 million to political causes since 2009. Prior to 2022, Musk stated he never supported Republican politics. However, since then, he has championed Republican politics, particularly through his platform X (formerly Twitter). The billionaire tweeted in 2022 that if Florida Governor Ron DeSantis decided to run for president in 2024, he would support him. DeSantis has since withdrawn from the Republican primary.
The multiple civil and criminal lawsuits that have been filed against Trump over the past two years have caused his legal expenses to soar. Prior to this, The Times revealed that $50 million was expended by Trump’s PACs on the former president’s legal defense in 2023. By August of last year, Save America discovered that it had spent most of its available funds on the legal defense of Trump and his cronies.
As the Times revealed at the time, Save America needed the money back from another organization connected to Trump, asking for $60 million in order to survive.
In his New York civil fraud case, Trump was hit with a $454 million fine in February. His counsel stated in the filing that unless an emergency delay is granted, he would probably have to liquidate properties to raise the money needed to pay the full amount of the $100 million bail after being refused one. The $83.3 million awarded in the defamation lawsuit against writer E. Jean Caroll is not related to the civil penalty. in addition to the four concurrent criminal prosecutions that the former president is facing.
Trump has a significantly lesser campaign fund than Biden, which will hurt the former president in their anticipated rematch in the general election. Large contributors have so far been difficult for Trump to secure for his 2024 campaign; the majority of them have either remained neutral or have backed Nikki Haley.
When it comes to raising money, President Joe Biden continues to outperform Donald Trump. As of the end of January, Biden’s campaign had around $56 million, while Trump’s had roughly $30 million.
