How Tesla helped usher in a new era in the global automobile industry?
A new era for the global auto industry may have begun with Tesla Inc.’s TSLA.O meteoric rise to the top spot as the most valuable carmaker in the world. This era will be characterized by a Silicon Valley-style software approach that will replace traditional manufacturing know-how. Tesla’s uprise has amazed many competitors. But executives at Daimler AG DAIGn.DE, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz, were closely monitoring how Tesla and its chief executive Elon Musk were adopting a new approach to manufacturing vehicles that challenged the established system. Analysts began to compare Tesla to Apple AAPL.O after it developed innovative manufacturing techniques, software designs, and electronic architecture that allow it to introduce innovations faster than competitors. “Elon Musk has been walking on the edge of a razorblade in terms of the aggression with which he pushes some technologies,” said a former Mercedes engineer.
Conventional batteries vs. NDB
Batteries present a number of issues throughout the lifespans of our electronics. As is the refinement of these rare materials, mining lithium and other components of the batteries we currently use is a destructive, filthy business. These effects will spread to more of our untamed landscapes as demand rises, potentially having disastrous results. When our batteries run out of power, they frequently rot in landfills along with the devices they powered. Our electronic waste is occasionally shipped abroad, where it is crudely salvaged or burned before ending up in the air and water. Our old electronics are only partially recycled responsibly. Batteries would produce far less waste if they didn’t deteriorate so quickly.
Is NDB safe for the environment?
I guess a logical question you might well ask is whether or not these batteries are safe. There’s a stigma around anything to do with nuclear power, which is a potential roadblock to the adoption of this technology. Dr Golsharifi thinks that this fear can be dealt with through education:
“Not many people know that most smoke detectors contain radioactive material; still, they have them at home without any problem.” NDB has done a lot of research to make sure that its batteries are secure enough to be used in items like phones and automobiles. NDB batteries don’t emit any pollutants or dangerous radiation in numerous ways. Diamond-based nuclear batteries, which are nearly unbreakable, are probably safer than lithium-ion batteries, which have been known to catch fire and explode.
Why investors favour Tesla?
No points for guessing! The answer is very simple. Investors favour the Tesla model, in an industry experiencing fast and revolutionizing change even though the U.S. carmaker will face an onslaught of competition for electric vehicles from established automakers during the next few years. Today, Tesla is worth about $304.6 billion. It is more than six times Daimler’s 41.5-billion-euro ($47.7 billion) market capitalization. You see, Tesla has proved to be a Florence Griffith Joyner in the race to build the greenest and most fun-to-drive electric vehicles.
