However, Buffett, known as the “Oracle of Omaha,” invested in BYD, a significant Chinese rival of Tesla. Last year, BYD sold more electric vehicles than Musk’s business. However, when only electric vehicles are considered, Tesla continues to lead the world, as BYD also produces hybrid vehicles, which combine an electric motor with a gasoline engine.
By purchasing 225 million shares for around $232 million in 2008, Buffett made a stake in BYD through his company Berkshire Hathaway. As a result of BYD’s stock price increasing greatly over time, the investment has since experienced enormous growth.
The billionaire has begun to decrease his ownership of BYD, nevertheless, over the past few months. After selling an additional 4.235 million shares for over $140 million last month, Berkshire has now sold about 95 million of its initial 225 million shares of the business, the company revealed in a regulatory filing early this month.
With 130.3 million shares, the holding still ranks among the largest owners in the corporation and accounts for nearly 12% of the Chinese group.
Given that Berkshire Hathaway ended 2022 with a sizable war fund, a Twitter user wondered which company Buffett should invest in in this situation. As a matter of fact, the holding’s cash hoard increased to $128.65 billion in the fourth quarter of 2022 from just under $109 billion in the third quarter.
