Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, recently tweeted to his 128 million followers to not be concerned about flying objects. The Tesla CEO was responding to reports that the US had shot down a number of unidentified objects. Musk wrote in his tweet, “Don’t worry, just some of my Alien friends of mine stopping by…” The billionaire also included an alien and a UFO emoji for added impact. However, the person in charge of a top-secret Pentagon investigation into mysterious aerial invasions has co-authored an academic paper that proposes an out-of-this-world theory: Recent objects could be alien probes sent to examine Earth by a mothership. Over 650 possible UFO sightings are currently being looked into by the US government, a Pentagon official stated on Wednesday.
Sean Kirkpatrick, head of the Pentagon’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office, and Harvard scientist Avi Loeb collaborated in a draft paper dated March 7 to suggest that the objects, which appear to defy all physics, could be “probes” from an extraterrestrial “parent craft.”
It’s unusual for government officials to address the prospect of extraterrestrial life, especially those involved in the fledgling operation to gather intelligence on recent sightings, yet top agency officials don’t rule it out when asked.
The study garnered prominence after Loeb released it online, thanks to a post on Military Times, and it has also traveled among science-focused news publications.
Over fifty percent of the five-page article is devoted to analyzing the idea that the mysterious objects being studied by the DoD are the “probes” in the mothership scenario, including the majority of the page-long introduction. One section is labeled “The Extraterrestrial Possibility,” and another “Propulsion Methods.”
According to experts, Kirkpatrick’s participation in the scholarly paper suggests that the Pentagon is open to scientific debate over the origins of UFOs, which is an essential signal to send to the academic world. However, they note that his decision to put his name to a theory that is widely regarded as very unproven raises concerns about AARO’s trustworthiness.
According to the research, interstellar objects like the cigar-shaped “Oumuamua” that scientists discovered speeding across the galaxy in 2017 “could potentially be a parent craft that releases many small probes during its close passage to Earth.”
The probes are compared to “dandelion seeds” that might be detached from the parent craft by the sun’s gravitational force, according to the paper. It investigates the science of how the smaller vehicle could travel through the Earth’s atmosphere to reach the surface, where people could detect them.
The “probes” might use starlight to “charge their batteries” and Earth’s water as fuel, according to the report. It also speculates on the motivations for aliens to deploy exploratory probes to Earth.
“What is the journey’s overall goal?” “Like dandelion seeds, the probes could spread the blueprint of their senders,” the authors write. “As with biological seeds, the raw materials on the planet’s surface could be used as nutrients for self-replication or simply scientific exploration.”
