Elon Musk REVEAL What China Just FOUND On Mars!
At first view, the surface of Mars appears to be a very barren place. The air is exceedingly thin and toxic, the temperatures fluctuate greatly, and the soil is many times as dry as the driest desert on Earth.
The planet was previously much warmer and wetter, with a lot of flowing and standing water on its surface, as there is plenty of evidence to support this. Much of this water was lost to space over time as Mars’ atmosphere was gradually stripped away, and what is left is mainly concentrated near the poles as glacial ice and permafrost. And the recent discovery of the Chinese rover, Zhurong, just shocked the tech billionaire, Elon Musk. What was discovered? And what is the progress of China in exploring Mars? Robotic rovers, orbiters, landers, and aerial vehicles have been sent to Mars by space agencies for many years in an effort to better understand when and how long this transition took place. Liquid water may have existed on the surface of Mars later than previously assumed, according to China’s Tianwen-1 mission, which is home to the Zhurong rover. A new study from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) reports that the Zhurong rover discovered salt-rich dunes in the Utopia Planitia region that displayed cracks and crusts, possibly indicating the existence of water as recently as a few hundred thousand years ago.
Xiaoguang Qin and Xu Wang from the Institute of Geology and Geophysics’ Key Laboratory of Cenozoic Geology and Environment, as well as Xin Ren and Jianjun Liu from the National Astronomical Observatories’ Key Laboratory of Lunar and Deep Space Exploration, jointly led the study team. Numerous more scientists from these two universities, the Institute of Atmospheric Physics and the College of Earth and Planetary Sciences, joined them. On April 28, a report describing their findings was published in Science Advances.
In Utopia Planitia, a vast plain and the largest impact basin in the Solar System, the Zhurong rover discovered the intriguing structures they describe on the Barchan dunes’ surfaces. Similar to the dunes that may be found in deserts all over Earth, these dunes are a distinctive feature of Mars’ northern hemisphere. These are the consequence of sand being deposited by strong winds in the shape of a crescent, with the curved side facing the direction of the wind. Zhurong saw crusts, fissures, aggregates, and brilliant polygonal ridges while examining an area of dunes in the southern region of Utopia Planitia.
The scientists came to the conclusion that these shapes were created by tiny pockets of thawing snow or frost mixed with mineral salts. Aside from ridges and depressions, portions of hard crust and loose debris were also left behind when the water sublimated in Mars’ atmosphere. These features evolved in the presence of water, just like other features that did, and were then preserved by Mars’ extremely chilly and dry atmosphere. However, in contrast to other patterns that are hundreds of thousands or even billions of years old, the team calculates that these features were produced between 1.4 million and 400,000 years ago, or maybe even more recently.
