Elon Musk REVEALS Why Starship’s Launchpad Is Built Differently!

On April 20, SpaceX intentionally launched its Starship megarocket without the aid of a flame diverter or water deluge system, severely damaging the launch pad and sending dust and debris hurtling into neighbourhoods nearby. The business created a powerful deluge system and tested it successfully in an effort to stop a repeat. Does this, however, have any chance of success? Why doesn’t SpaceX construct a huge chamber beneath the Starship launch pad to collect the fume, save the rocket from colliding with closed concrete, and perhaps even suppress the sound produced in the launch? And all of those we will find out in todays episode!

Hello everyone! Welcome back to Elon Musk Evolution, where we bring you the most recent news about Elon Musk and his multi billion-dollar companies, space news and the latest science and technology.

Recent success of its full-pressure testing of a new water deluge system for its Starship launch vehicle was carried out by SpaceX, the renowned aerospace manufacturer and space transportation business founded by Elon Musk. With the heat and energy from the Super Heavy booster’s engines damaging the launch pad and orbital launch mount during the orbital flight test in April, one of the key issues that surfaced then was significantly addressed by this test. We’ll examine SpaceX’s creative solution in depth in this episode, as well as the environmental issues this new approach raises.
First, we take a look at the traditional system of launching rockets done by NASA. Why do rocket launches need so much water?

Many people develop a plan for prevention and action in the event of a fire, whether it be at home, school, or the place of employment. Everywhere, fire prevention is crucial, however when you consider the launch pads at the Kennedy Space Centre, where hundreds of thousands of litres of highly combustible materials are handled, the importance of fire prevention is magnified.

At the launch site, NASA keeps 900,000 pounds each of hydrogen and liquid oxygen (LOX). The fuel for the shuttle’s rockets, hydrogen, is propelled by LOX, which acts as an oxidizer to cause combustion. There would be a large explosion if these two compounds were to combine prematurely. In the final moments before launch, the LOX and hydrogen are pumped to the external tank, which is located on the opposite sides of the launch area from each other. By combining two tanks into one, the external tank keeps the hydrogen and LOX apart until the very last second. A controlled explosion occurs as a result of the reaction between the fuel and oxidizer, which launches the spacecraft.

At the vital moments preceding ignition, thousands of gallons of water flood the launch location, serving two goals. Water slows the spread of flames and minimizes the harm that sound waves can do. Pipes can break, walls can crack, and joints can become loose as a result of sound waves. Leaks and breakdowns could cause more fires in damaged systems. The launch location is flooded with water to drown out the sound waves.

The Sound Suppression System shields the orbiter and its payloads from harm by reducing the acoustic energy—sound waves—that could cause cracks and damage to surfaces during takeoff. Just before the main engine is ignited, water that has been stored in a 300,000-gallon raised tank is released and flows to the launch platform outlets.
