Elon Musk Says All Species on Earth Will Die When the Sun Expands
Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, stated in a tweet that the Sun’s expansion could result in the extinction of all species on the planet, necessitating interplanetary living. While this may turn out to be correct, Musk stated this in response to a paper warning about mass extinction caused by human activity.
Musk tweeted this in response to a paper titled The Sixth Mass Extinction: Fact, Fiction, or Speculation? Published in Biological Reviews. According to one of the paper’s authors, Robert Cowie, the planet has already experienced five mass extinctions, with a sixth one on the way. The mass extinction that is currently taking place is the result of ruthless human activity. Since the year 1500, approximately 260,000 species, including invertebrates such as snails and slugs, may have been lost.
When a Twitter handle shared this paper with its larger audience, Musk jumped in to declare that Sun’s expansion was also a major threat.
