Elon Musk Says FAA Decision Will Let China WIN The Race To The Moon!
The south pole of the Moon seems to be the new destination for spacecraft from all the major players. Russia recently lost a lander there after attempting to land on it, while India just landed there recently. The United States hopes to send a crew there in 2025; China wanted access to the same areas for its unmanned lander; and now Pakistan has joined in with China’s support. The Moon has been largely ignored for decades, but now there is renewed interest in it. The more reason why the SpaceX CEO, Elon Musk, wants to speed up the launch of its mega rocket Starship, unfortunately, the FAA and FWS approval is still unclear. And so, the big question is what’s taking them so long?

Again the question, What’s the Big Deal About Landing at the Moon’s South Pole?
Political factors play a major role in some of the reasons, just as they did in the 1960s.
However, one significant element is the fact that, in the decades after the last person stepped foot on the Moon, we have found water ice concealed in the shadows of deep craters close to the Moon’s southern pole. The Moon is once again incredibly interesting as a result of this new information; more on that later.
The agency sees the Moon as a crucial stepping stone on that approach — both literally and conceptually — as it becomes more serious about sending men to Mars. Astronauts will be able to create technologies and plans that they can utilize on their journey to Mars later on by going to the Moon and establishing a presence there. And in a more literal sense, NASA anticipates using the Moon and the Gateway space station in lunar orbit as waystations for missions embarking on the considerably longer trek to Mars.
The lunar south pole is also a target for other nations, including China, India, and Russia. Although these countries likewise want the glory of Moon landings in the near future, their space programs occasionally have long-term goals for their own crewed trips to Mars.
Why is the south pole of the moon such a big deal?
A stark contrast to the comparatively level, smooth fields of cooled lava that the Apollo astronauts encountered in the 1970s is the highly cratered and exceedingly rugged terrain of the south pole region of the Moon. However, the water ice that is trapped in the continuously darkened floor of the deepest craters near the pole is undoubtedly the key to a self-sufficient Moon outpost.
Frozen water can be used for many different purposes if you want to build a base on the Moon. You can defrost it and drink it, of course, but you can also break its molecules apart to create liquid hydrogen and oxygen for rocket fuel (and oxygen is obviously equally good because you can breathe it).
All of those things are present on Earth, of course, but water in particular is quite heavy and hence expensive to launch in terms of both money and fuel. In comparison to launching them from Earth, it is significantly less expensive for a Moon outpost to obtain its air, water, and rocket fuel from the nearby crater.
