Elon Musk’s SpaceX Fires Up Starship 26: Starship 25 UPDATE
SpaceX is battling a regulatory process that might prevent a test flight of the Starship for months. And so, while waiting for FAA approval, SpaceX is preparing its other Starship prototypes. Let’s find out all the latest updates and what’s happening in Starbase in today’s episode.

One more Starship vehicle from SpaceX has been fired up.
They are allegedly constructing an entire fleet. Up to 31 are at least under construction for the Starship. In the early stages of testing, many people were used for test flights and even pressurization to failure testing.
The boosters 10, 11, and 12 are, at the very least, in production.
On Friday, October 20, at its Starbase facility on the Texas Gulf Coast, the company briefly ignited one of the six Raptor engines on the prototype Ship 26 Starship.
In a post on Friday on X (formerly known as Twitter), which included footage of the burn, SpaceX wrote: “Single engine static fire demonstrating flight-like startup for a Starship deorbit burn.”
The biggest and most powerful rocket built to date is SpaceX’s next-generation deep-space transportation system, called Starship. It is made up of a Super Heavy upper stage spacecraft and a Super Heavy first stage booster.
With 33 of them for Super Heavy and six for Starship, both of these components are powered by SpaceX’s Raptor engine and are intended to be totally instantly reusable.
Deorbit burns and other engine firings will be necessary to allow Starship ships to safely land on Earth following takeoff, enabling this reuse.
But following space missions, Starship has not yet made any safe landings. The vehicle is currently under development and has only performed one completely stacked liftoff; this was a test flight in April of this year that ended in a controlled detonation due to issues that arose soon after launch.
SpaceX is getting ready for the second Starship test flight, which will use the upper stage of the Ship 25 rocket and a Super Heavy rocket known as Booster 9. Both of these vehicles have undergone static fire tests, and the manufacturer claims they are technically prepared to take to the skies.
However, there are still legal obstacles to overcome. Booster 9 and Ship 25 cannot launch unless SpaceX receives a launch permit from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration.
On Wednesday, the leadership of SpaceX will travel to Washington, DC, to press for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to provide regulatory approvals more quickly. Both Starship test flights and more routine Falcon 9 rocket launches will be subject to a more streamlined licensing procedure, according to the the company.
Before the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Space and Science hearing, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service told in a report that the regulatory licensing procedure for the second Starship test flight might take until the spring of 2024.
