Elon Musk’s Starlink FINALLY Passes Arctic Military Tests!

The Department of Defense lauded Starlink in November 2022 for its ability to maintain communication amongst American military personnel stationed in the Arctic.
“You can imagine an Army, Air Force, or Navy unit assigned to a remote location that does not have the cell-phone service niceties and very quickly have communications at high rates that an airman can set up in ten minutes—that is a great capability to have,” said Beal at the beginning of the tests. “That is a great capability to have.”
The Starlink satellite service offered by SpaceX was able to successfully complete nine months of military testing conducted by the United States in the Arctic. This might potentially pave the way for SpaceX’s founder, Elon Musk, to strengthen his relationships with the Pentagon in an area where strategic competition is rising.
The testing that had not been disclosed before revealed that StarLink is a “reliable and high-performance communications system in the Arctic, including on-the-move applications,” according to Brian Beal, a principal engineer with the Integrated Capabilities Directorate of the Air Force Research Laboratory, who made the statement to Bloomberg News.
The exercises, which came to a close in June, were designed to evaluate the efficacy of Starlink for the requirements of the Pentagon, as stated by Beal. An attempt to obtain a comment from a spokeswoman for SpaceX was not immediately met with a response.
According to Beal, “We tested in winds that were extremely high and temperatures that were extremely cold.” Still, everything went on without a hitch. After we had the terminals fixed in such a way that they could endure heavy winds, they functioned perfectly and without any problems.
As a result of the testing, it appears that Starlink has the potential to become a crucial asset in what is becoming an increasingly critical region of competition with Russia and China, both of whom have pushed to grow their influence in the Arctic. However, the region’s harsh environment and distant location make it difficult to communicate using the military satellites that are currently in place.
Therefore, the portable Starlink terminals are a potential option that can be utilized in this situation. In addition, the Air Force is continuing to assess Eutelsat OneWeb, which is situated in London and has a few more months of testing in the Arctic, according to Beal.
Even as Musk has grown more embroiled in controversy over his management of X, promotion of an antisemitic tweet, and consequent ad boycott, the possible Arctic contracts would add to SpaceX’s expanding space portfolio. As early as Wednesday morning, people who are acquainted with the situation said that SpaceX had begun negotiations regarding the possibility of selling insider shares at a price that would value the privately held business at a minimum of $175 billion.
