One of the most amazing vehicles ever made is the rocket, which rises above the surface of the earth on a deafening pillar of exhaust as it heads into the cold void of space. The historic second launch of SpaceX’s Starship on Saturday, November 18, resulted in two explosions. It is evident that SpaceX is making progress with its massive launch vehicle, and a third flight is certain to advance the rocket’s development even further, despite the fact that it is easy to get sidetracked by these continuous failures. The second test flight of Starship was successful, including the historic 33-engine burn, according to SpaceX. But how does the Starship compare with NASA’s Saturn V? For a long time, no other aerospace platform could compare to the Saturn V in terms of size and thrust. NASA developed it for the Apollo missions to the moon and used it to propel Skylab into orbit. There were no major mishaps with the Saturn V’s launch of 24 people into space.
The Saturn V raised the bar for ambitious rocketeers, but Elon Musk’s SpaceX is more than up to the task. The SpaceX Starship is a Super Heavy Launch Vehicle under development and research by the company. It will be slightly more powerful than the Saturn V. Its capacity to transport humans and cargo into space has been significantly improved by technological developments in recent years. If the Starship lives up to the promises of its design, it might make space travel easier for humans than any rocket before it. And in today’s episode we will compare the Saturn V to SpaceX’s Starship to see which spacecraft is superior.
Saturn V and Starship appear identical at first glance. Both can hoist loads weighing over 110,000 pounds, and both tower hundreds of feet into the air. The Chinese Long March 9 is their only potential competitor, outside of a few of mostly unsuccessful Soviet prototypes. The Starship and the Saturn V may look identical at first glance, but they are actually very different beasts from different times and with very different purposes.
The maximum number of passengers a Saturn V could transport in a lunar module was three. There could be a hundred or more passengers aboard the starship. To put a man on the moon was the primary goal of the Saturn V’s designers, while the Starship could serve as a “space airliner” for passengers going as far as Mars. With all its massive power and proportions, the Saturn V was a one-and-done rocket, but SpaceX plans to make the Starship reusable.
To compete with the Soviet Union in the 1960s space race, the United States constructed the Saturn V (Roman numeral five) rocket as a heavy lift vehicle. Among the many notable scientists who contributed to the initiative was the renowned German scientist and space enthusiast Wernher von Braun. The Apollo lunar rovers were launched using NASA’s custom-built Saturn V rocket.
