Elon Musk REVEALS A Rare Earth-Free Super Magnets!
In an effort to lessen their reliance on China, automakers in the United States, Europe, and Japan are all exploring the possibility of putting a stop to the usage of rare earth metals in the motors of future electric vehicles (EVs). Tesla is one of the companies that is working toward this goal.
And during the Investor Day event that took place earlier this year, the Vice President of Powertrain Engineering at Tesla, Colin Campbell, made the announcement that the next-generation powertrain that the company would be developing will include a permanent magnet motor that would contain no rare earth metals. According to a recent story from Reuters, a number of automobile manufacturers, including General Motors (GM), Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), Nissan, and others, as well as the supplier BorgWarner, are all working on producing, studying, or have already built motors that include low or zero rare earth minerals.

A rising number of automobile manufacturers and suppliers are working on electric vehicle (EV) motors that either do not use rare earths or significantly lower the amount of components that are mostly sourced from China.
In the beginning, Tesla relied on induction motors that did not contain rare earth permanent magnets. However, in 2017, the company made the transition to using a permanent magnet motor for the mass-market Model 3.
Electric vehicles will be the norm in the future of automobiles. The transition from a gas-guzzling existence to one that does not produce pollutants on highways and byways is being made by automobile manufacturers and governments, although for some, it is not happening rapidly enough. However, this electric vehicle (EV) future is not without its expenses, and one of the most significant ones, both financially and politically, is the procurement of the rare earth metals that are utilized in magnetic motors, which are the driving force behind the EV revolution.
Consider the element neodymium as an example. Iron and boron are two examples of elements that, when coupled with this substance, produce a magnetic field that is continuous. This magnetic field comes into contact with an electromagnetic field that is produced by the electrons that are moving through the coils of wire that are contained within the motor. In order to move a Tesla electric vehicle in the most effective manner possible, this remarkable piece of engineering is responsible for rotating the shaft of the motor.
The electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla made the announcement earlier this year that it planned to develop a new motor that would be entirely devoid of rare earth metals.
