Number 20. Envaitenet – The Island of No Return
Our journey begins with Vitonet Island, off the coast of Kenya, known as the ‘No Return Island’. Despite its picturesque beaches, this island has a dark reputation. Legend has it that those who venture here never return. Is it mere superstition or is there something sinister lurking in its shadows?
The story of the Kenyan island of Envaitenet is one of those tales that captivates people completely but is sadly devoid of specifics. The small island, called Envaitenet in the language of a local tribe, means “No-Return,” and it is situated on Rudolf Lake, which has the name of an Austrian crown prince. It’s been thought to be a cursed spot for a long time.
According to the legend, the people of Envaitenet used to trade commodities with the mainland on a regular basis, but one day they stopped for no apparent reason. Two men from the area made the decision to visit the island out of concern for what had occurred. Upon arrival, they discovered the location to be entirely deserted. They discovered nothing but charred cottages and rotting fish. Obviously, the two men were rather spooked out by all of this and vowed never to return to the mainland.
On a geological expedition, English explorer Vivian Fush visited the region in 1935. Martin Sheflin and Bill Dayson, two of the scientists in his group, departed to visit Envaitenet. They vanished from view forever. A search group embarked upon them fifteen days after the men had set off. The men were nowhere to be seen on the island. A plane was even flown over the island, but no remains were discovered.

During the war, his army’s aerial branch, the Luftwaffe, was rumored to be producing ever-more-absurd weapons, such as disc-shaped aircraft.
