WHAT IF Starship FAILS After Flight Test 3?
Spectacular footage of SpaceX’s massive new Starship vehicle’s second test flight has surfaced.
Part of the incident on November 18 involved the “rapid unscheduled disassemblies,” as SpaceX called it, of the lower and upper stages of Starship, which happened approximately four and eight minutes after the liftoff, respectively.
The two blasts are boldly depicted in the two-minute video that SpaceX uploaded to X (previously Twitter) on December 7. However, it highlights them, with an image of Elon Musk, CEO and founder of SpaceX, smiling and high-fiving those in mission control punctuating the first.

The launch of Starship from the company’s Starbase site in South Texas resulted in the achievement of a multitude of significant milestones, which overwhelmed Musk and other SpaceX personnel—who are shown celebrating en masse in other parts of the video.
For instance, all 33 Raptor engines that were installed on Starship’s first-stage booster, which was referred to as Super Heavy, performed admirably and carried out their function for almost 2.5 minutes. In addition, Super Heavy was able to effectively detach from the top stage, which, in turn, fired its Raptors in accordance with the schedule.
During its first flight, which took place on April 20 and was launched from Starbase, Starship did not meet either of those standards. The two stages of the Super Heavy’s Raptors failed to split, which resulted in SpaceX deliberately exploding the tumbling vehicle approximately four minutes after liftoff. This occurred because a few of the Raptors failed to function properly early on that day.
In addition, the launch that took place on April 20 caused significant damage to the orbital launch platform of Starbase, which resulted in the formation of a large crater beneath the building. A water-spewing steel plate was placed by SpaceX to protect the mount moving forward, and the modification was successful; the mount made it through the launch that took place a month ago very much intact, according to representatives from the company.
Both of these test flights had the objective of sending the upper stage of Starship around the Earth for the majority of its orbit, with the final destination being a splashdown in the Pacific Ocean close to Hawaii. On the other hand, Super Heavy was expected to make landfall in the Gulf of Mexico, close to the coast of Texas province. However, success on test flights is not typically anticipated, particularly when the vehicle in consideration is the largest and most powerful rocket that has ever been constructed.
SpaceX is currently making preparations for the third flight of Starship, which the company anticipates will take place within a few weeks, providing that the necessary paperwork is received.
