BAD NEWS For Elon Musk’s Tesla Semi: “Is It WORTH It?”
PepsiCo said on Friday that it would be the first company to get its orders of the much-delayed electric vehicles when it took receipt of two Tesla Semi trucks on December 1. The trucks will be used at the PepsiCo beverage factory in Sacramento and the Modesto Frito-Lay plant, according to a statement from PepsiCo. By reserving 100 of the trucks in 2017, PepsiCo was able to cut down on pollution and fuel expenses. Aiming to reach net-zero emissions by 2040, PepsiCo is one of many US firms that have committed to taking steps to lessen their environmental impacts. Tesla produces more than just automobiles; soon, their electric semi-trucks will be transporting goods across the nation. The Tesla Semi has been rumored and discussed for years, and it appears that it is close to becoming a reality.
On December 14, 2017, Tesla unveiled the Semi to the public. These engineering marvels will soon be visible on roads all across the world.
Beginning on December 1st, Tesla will begin making deliveries, with PepsiCo as its initial client. The Semis have, however, previously been spotted a number of times. These vehicles are referred to as Beasts on the Tesla Semi website, and even though we won’t know everything until they are delivered, there is plenty of information to piece together. From what we do know, it is certain that Tesla is once again upending the transportation industry.
The Tesla Semi was mentioned for the first time in Elon Musk’s Master Plan Part Deux, which was published on the business website on July 20, 2016. The CEO covered more ground than sedans and SUVs under the heading: Expand to Cover the Major Forms of Terrestrial Transport. “Heavy-duty trucks and urban transportation with high passenger densities both require alternative sorts of electric vehicles.
Both are in the early phases of development at Tesla and should be ready for release in 2017, according to Musk’s letter. “We believe the Tesla Semi will offer a big decrease in the cost of cargo transport while boosting safety and making it very fun to drive,” Musk continued.
Musk contrasted the Tesla Semi with modern semi-trucks on the road today and with the Bugatti Chiron, a $2 million supercar, when he first unveiled it in 2017. Performance, but not just any performance, was among the first features mentioned by the CEO.
It was called BAMF Performance by Tesla instead. You can determine the acronym on your own. The Semi will stand out from the crowd at truck stops just based on appearance, but performance is what will revolutionize the trucking business.
There are now just three separate motors in the Semi, as opposed to the original plan of four. It doesn’t appear to have, however, caused the car to slow down. In a video of the Tesla Semi accelerating to 60 mph in less than five seconds without a load, Musk remarked, “We wanted a vehicle that feels great and that accelerates like nothing else.” With the maximum 80,000 pounds of gross vehicle weight, it can also accelerate to 60 mph in 20 seconds while fully loaded.
The Tesla Semi will travel 65 miles per hour up a hill with its entire weight while conventional diesel trucks only manage to reach 45 miles per hour at a 5% gradient.
